Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
Beautiful and strong play: The psychological defenses revealed through multiple confrontations to be witnessed by the audience without any social cover. It is my first time to read anything by Tennessee Williams. I like his style, especially the way he uses the talk or actions of minor characters and the sounds in the background in a way similar to the chorus of the Greek theater, commenting on or stressing what is going on. I liked also his lengthy stage directions, which are much more than
Dizzying and fantastical, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof examines the emotional toll of sexual repression. Brick is an aging former football star stuck in an unhappy marriage to his theatrical wife Maggie. After the suicide of his former teammate and best friend Skipper, Brick left the field, turned to alcohol, and now spends his days drinking and warding off Maggies pleas for a child. His father might have cancer, and the family estate will go to his obnoxious older brother if he and Maggie dont soon
This is a superbly written play about that most basic of human issues, the desire to communicate honestly and openly with someone that you care about. At its core, Tennessee Williams' masterpiece is really about nothing more than that. Everyone wants and needs someone to listen to, and accept, you.All of Williams' plays are about lonely people when you come right down to it. However, "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" is unique in that these lonely characters are part of a large family, and at times are
I didn't like this at all. Hated all the characters. Didn't really get the point of it. I love some of Tennesse Williams other works but not this. I've been told the movie is good, though.
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, written by one of the greatest American playwrights, Tennessee Williams, debuted in 1955 with its portrait of rich southerner Big Daddy, Big Mama, and two brothers sort of vying for for their dying father's inheritance. Biff, a former successful football player, is now an alcoholic, and not sleeping with his lovely wife, Maggie the Cat. I saw the film version with Paul Newman and Liz Taylor many years ago and it always stayed with me. I listened to a version of this play
Very powerful, enjoyable read. I particularly liked having the very specific stage directions, so meticulously explained and set out by Williams for readers as well as directors and performers. Also enjoyed the accompanying essays about the development of the play along with director Elia Kazin and Williams' own essay about the play. These are not people I would want to spend time with; they don't want to spend time with each other. The way Williams lets the anger, frustration, thwarted love,

Ilustration In Favor Of Books Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof first heated up Broadway in 1955 with its gothic American story of brothers vying for their dying father’s inheritance amid a whirlwind of sexuality, untethered in the person of Maggie the Cat. The play also daringly showcased the burden of sexuality repressed in the agony of her husband, Brick Pollitt. In spite of the public controversy Cat stirred up, it was awarded the Pulitzer Prize and the Drama Critics Circle Award for that year. Williams, as he so often did with his plays, rewrote Cat on a Hot Tin Roof for many years—the present version was originally produced at the American Shakespeare Festival in 1974 with all the changes that made Williams finally declare the text to be definitive, and was most recently produced on Broadway in the 2003–2004 season. This definitive edition also includes Williams&rsquoi; essay “Person-to-Person,” Williams’ notes on the various endings, and a short chronology of the author’s life. One of America’s greatest living playwrights, as well as a friend and colleague of Williams, Edward Albee has written a concise introduction to the play from a playwright’s perspective, examining the candor, sensuality, power, and impact of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof then and now.List Books Concering Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
